Private Sponsorship Program (PSRP) for Refugees

PRIVATE SPONSORSHIP OF REFUGEES (PSR) PROGRAM

Wadi-Kaja Organization for Refugees and Immigrants (WORI) is one of the organizations across Canada to run a Private Sponsorship Program (PSRP) for refugees under the auspice of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Our Private Sponsorship Program for Refugees objective is to sponsor refugees from many parts of the world and resettle them in Canada.

The beneficiaries of this program are refugees and individuals in refugee-like situations (Convention Refugees) from all over the globe. Upon their arrival in Canada, our organization provides them with the necessary settlement support for at least one year. When sponsoring refugees, WORI enters into a formal agreement with co-sponsors - individuals willing and able to help sponsor refugees. Co-sponsors may be relatives, friends, or any Canadian citizen, registered Indians, or permanent resident qualified to become a co-sponsor.

Our main countries of resettlement include Afghanistan, Sudan, Chad, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Congo, Nicaragua, South Africa, Iraq, and Syria.

WORI’s settlement counsellors assist in completing applicable immigration forms for eligible individuals who would like to sponsor their family members – spouses, children, and other family members who do not fall under the refugee sponsorship program. Although Refugee and Family sponsorship programs are essential parts of our sponsorship program, we also provide information and referral services in all forms of immigration classes such as the Provincial Nominee Program and Federal skilled worker program for individuals interested in exploring other ways of coming to Canada. Working closely with co-sponsors, we facilitate the process of sponsoring refugees, ensuring a smooth journey towards a better life.

The Wadi-Kaja Organization does not work with refugees directly; rather we work with the Co-Sponsors only. If you are a refugee seeking resettlement in Canada, you must have or find a co-sponsor in Canada to contact our organization on your behalf. For Canadian citizens, registered Indians, or permanent residents willing to sponsor a family member, relative, or friend, we are here to assist throughout the process, adhering to guidelines set by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada.

SPONSORSHIP COST GUIDELINES

To Sponsor refugees, the Co-sponsors are required to demonstrate sufficient financial means to meet the obligations set forth by IRCC. Relatives of refugees who intend to sponsor through the Wadi Kaja Organization need to provide substantial evidence of funds availability and source of funds. It is always recommended that the financial support exceeds the minimum requirements.

FUNDS SHOULD NOT COME FROM THE REFUGEES

It’s the requirement for the Co-Sponsors to provide documentation that verifies the sponsorship funds are not coming from the refugee. To facilitate the sponsorship process, it's essential to provide substantial proof of these funds.

There are three (3) available approaches for sponsoring your family member via Wadi Kaja:

  • Deposit the complete sponsorship amount into our shared trust account and provide documentation tracing the fund source.
  • Collaborate with a minimum of three family members to contribute from personal incomes.
  • Create a combination of funds and personal income contributions.

UTILIZATION OF TRUST ACCOUNT FUNDS

  • Funds deposited or held in the trust account will be allocated to the sponsored refugee family's or individual’s resettlement. Upon their arrival in Canada, these funds are disbursed monthly, calculated at (total cost/12) per month.
  • In scenarios where the sponsored refugee application is rejected or the funds are not needed during the sponsorship period, the money will be refunded to donors or co-sponsors.
  • If the sponsorship is cancelled or withdrawn by either the refugee, Wadi-Kaja organization, or CIC, funds will be returned to the donors or co-sponsors, pending confirmation of withdrawal.
