IMMIGRATION SETTLEMENT SERVICES IN TORONTO

The goal of our Immigrant Settlement Program (ISP) is to facilitate smooth social and economic integration of newcomers to Canada. The ultimate outcome of the program is to help newcomers become fully engaged in all aspects of Canadian life – social, political, etc. To do this, we provide cross-cutting settlement services that include:

  • Intake and Needs Assessment
  • Development of settlement and resettlement plans
  • Referrals and follow-up to services out of our scope
  • Information and orientation
  • Community Connections
  • Support services such as respite childcare, non-clinical counselling, etc.

Settlement services are accessible to all permanent residents – including resettled refugees – up to the point of citizenship. Services are delivered by over 550 service provider organizations abroad and domestically, including immigrant-serving organizations, school boards/educational institutions, and other community-based organizations, and community-based services.

As more than 80 % of our core clients are refugees who have experienced a lot of challenges, we use the case management approach which allows for developing a tailored individual plan of action for our target populations, including women, youth, racialized individuals, seniors, people with a disability, and 2SLGBTQI+ individuals, who often face additional integration challenges.

Our settlement counsellors assist clients with housing, translation of documents, employment assistance, filling out various immigration forms, escorting to social services and other appointments, interpretation, referrals to other mainstream service providers, etc. They also deliver needs-driven workshops to address financial literacy, health issues, education matters, employment, sponsorship, and other relevant areas of interest to our new immigrant clients.

Since our establishment in 2020, this essential programming has always been a place of diversity, an exciting mix of recently arrived immigrants and refugees, long-established generations of immigrants and their families, and naturalized citizens, all coming from different parts of the world. To cope with the changing dynamic of the community we serve, we provide services in more than 10 languages, including Amharic, Arabic, English, French, Tigrinya, etc.
